RMSc Footprint Optics

Today we’ll be reviewing the Top 5 Shield RMSc footprint optics. The Shield RMSc is a popular optic, and it’s known as the first micro red dot sight to hit the market. Its tiny size makes it an excellent fit for pistols such as the Sig P365X/XL, Glock 43x MOS, and the Ruger Max-9.

The RMSc is a no-frills optic with no brightness adjustment buttons. It offers an auto-brightness feature that adjusts according to the lighting conditions. While this might appeal to some, others are looking at options that will allow them to fully customize the red dot display to their liking.

Our top considerations when considering RMSc footprint optic alternatives will be durability, battery life, and features, as well as whether they are direct-fit or require an adapter plate.

What Optics Use The RMSc Footprint?

With Shield being the pioneer in micro red dot sights, many pistol manufacturers started offering optic cuts for the RMSc, straight from the factory. Because of that, other red dot manufacturers have followed suit and made their micro red dots with the same footprint.

This, in turn, has given us several options to choose from. While options are great, you want to make sure you choose a red dot that will fit your specific needs. Remember that application will always play a significant factor when choosing a red dot. For instance, someone working in law enforcement or security might have different needs than the average civilian carrying for personal defense.

We’ll look at our top picks for the best RMSc footprint optics and break down the pros and cons of each.

Holosun 507K X2

Important note: The K series from Holosun is considered a Modified RMSc footprint. Please read on to learn why this is important before choosing this option.

The Holosun 507k is one of our favorite micro red dot optics. In fact, it can be found on several of our EDCs. It’s small but packed with features such as the MRS (multi-reticle system), shake awake, and various brightness levels. On top of that, it’s incredibly rugged. While we haven’t done an official torture test on the 507k, it’s certainly seen its share of use and mild abuse. It keeps on going!

While the 507k does fit the same footprint as the RMSc, there is one significant thing to consider. Firearms with a slide cut for the RMSc often have four indexing lugs, which perfectly accommodate the RMSc, as it has four holes for these lugs (two in the front and two in the back). The 507k only has two holes in the front. This means you must either use an adapter plate or file off the two rear lugs. You will also need to slightly file down the two front lugs as they protrude a little more than the 507k holes will accept. If you choose to do the latter, we highly recommend taking your slide to a competent gunsmith to have it done.

Here are some of our favorite features of the Holosun 507k and why we think this is the best RMSc footprint optic.

Holosun HS507K-X2 Compact Multi-Reticle Circle Dot Open Red Dot Sight w/Shake Awake HS507K-X2
  • Multi-Reticle System with 32 MOA circle and 2 MOA dot
  • Shake Awake technology
  • Battery life of up to 50,000 hours
  • Lock Mode, preventing accidental adjustment
  • Durable 7075 aluminum housing
  • IP67 Waterproof
  • 12 brightness settings - 10 daylight, 2 night-vision

  • Holosun EPS Carry

Important note:┬áLike the 507k, the Holosun EPS Carry has just two holes in the front for indexing lugs and is considered a Modified RMSc footprint. However, the EPS Carry comes with an RMSc to K footprint adapter. This makes getting the EPS Carry optic on your RMSc footprint slide incredibly easy. It’s important to consider that the optic will sit slightly higher than if it were a direct mount. This might affect co-witness, especially with standard-height sights.

What we love most about the Holosun EPS Carry red dot is its durability. This enclosed emitter red dot provides the ultimate protection with 7075 aluminum surrounding critical components. In addition, the EPS Carry is packed with features such as the shake-awake technology found in many other Holosun optics.

If you’re looking for durability in a small package and an optic that will fit the RMSc footprint (with adapter), then you owe it to yourself to check out the Holosun EPS Carry. It’s perfect for Sig p365 X/XL, Glock 43x MOS, Glock 48 MOS, and Hellcat handguns.

Here are a few notable features found in the EPS Carry red dot.

HOLOSUN EPS Carry Red 2 MOA Dot Reflex Pistol Sight - Waterproof Shake-Awake Parallax-Free Aluminum...
  • 2 MOA dot (available in red or green)
  • Enclosed emitter
  • Durable 7075 aluminum construction
  • Shake-awake technology
  • Battery life of up to 50,000 hours
  • RMSc to K series footprint adapter included
  • IPX8 Waterproof

  • Swampfox Sentinel

Another excellent option for Shield RMSc footprint optics is the Swampfox Sentinel. This red dot is perfect for the more budget-conscious folks out there. While you might not get all of the bells and whistles found in some other red dots, you’ll surely get a quality optic at a very reasonable price.

One big plus to the Swampfox Sentinel is that it fits RMSc footprint cut slides without needing an adapter plate. It will mount directly to firearms like the Springfield Hellcat, Glock 43x MOS, and Glock 48 MOS. This will help you keep a nice, low profile and pull off a co-witness, even with standard height irons sights.

Swampfox offers both manual brightness and auto brightness models of the Sentinel. We recommend going with the manual brightness option, as auto brightness will sometimes not reach your optimal setting.

If you’re looking for a quality red dot that will mount directly to your RMSc cut slide, the Swampfox Sentinel is an excellent choice!

Here are some of our favorite features.

Swampfox Sentinel Micro Reflex, Manual Brightness, Red Dot
  • 3 MOA dot size
  • Manual and auto brightness options available
  • 10 brightness settings (on manual model)
  • Shake 'N Wake (motion activated to save battery life)
  • Durable 7075 aluminum construction
  • Battery life of up to 2 years
  • Waterproof (with seal installed)

  • Vortex Defender-CCW

The Defender-CCW is a RMSc footprint optic offered by Vortex. We’re fans of Vortex red dots and scopes because of their durability and unbeatable Lifetime Warranty. The Defender CCW is a newer micro red dot, perfect for ultra-concealable firearms like the Springfield Hellcat and Glock 43x MOS.

This red dot is offered in both 3 MOA and 6 MOA dot versions and comes standard with features like auto-wake and auto-off to help save battery life. The Defender-CCW will mount directly to slides with an RMS or RMSc cut without any modification or adapter plates, making it an excellent choice.

Here are some of the top features of the Vortex Defender-CCW.

Vortex Optics Defender-CCW Micro Red Dot Sight - 3 MOA
  • 3 MOA or 6 MOA dot sizes
  • Motion-activated auto-on and auto-off
  • Waterproof
  • ShockShield technology absorbs recoil, protecting your optic
  • Durable 7075 aluminum construction
  • Top-mount battery for easy changes
  • 10 brightness settings (8 daylight, 2 night-vision)

  • Sig Sauer RomeoZero

The Sig RomeoZero has been an incredibly popular micro red dot choice for compact carry pistols. It’s another excellent choice for those on a budget. While it may not be the most durable red dot option on the market, it should hold up fine if you don’t plan to carry it under extremely harsh conditions. If you’re looking for a little more durability, check out the RomeoZero Pro or Elite models.

The RomeoZero is compatible with slides cut for the RMSc footprint without an adapter plate. It features a motion-activated illumination system that powers on when motion is detected and off after inactivity. Because of its polymer frame, it’s one of the lightest optics in the micro red dot class.

Some of the top features include:

SIG SAUER SOR01300 Romeo Zero Reflex Sight, 3 MOA Red Dot, Black, One Size
  • 3 MOA or 6 MOA dot sizes
  • Motion-activated auto-on and auto-off after inactivity
  • Rugged, weapons-grad polymer construction
  • Polymer lens said to be more impact-resistant than glass
  • 8 brightness settings
  • Up to 20,000-hour battery life

  • Conclusion

Any of these RMSc footprint optics choices could get the job done. The Holosun 507k and EPS Carry will give you the ultimate durability and features but also require either slide modification or an adapter plate. If you want a direct fit and the lowest profile solution (without slide modification), then the Swampfox Sentinel, Vortex Defender-CCW, or Sig RomeoZero are your best choices.

Modified RMSc footprint is Certainly not a RMSc footprint. Modification is changing something / altering.
The Holosun is not designed with RMSc footprint and should be entirely excluded from that category. Holosun can probably easily produce RMSc footprint version.
